Plastic is Dead: Modern Home Organization

Plastic is Dead: Modern Home Organization - The Tribalist

The explosion of buying storage plastic containers in the U.S. consumerism. Psychologically, we can all understand the dopamine hit when we see cleanly organized spaces.

But we’ve blown past the bliss point.

We’ve even lost sight of the purpose of storage.

We even became disconnected from surrounding ourselves with products that look and feel good vs. those that are cheaper or more convenient. Our short-savings led us to have to replace in another year or two and be exposed to the BPA and other harmful plastics, ultimately costing us more in both cash and health.

Below, is the modern, plastic version we “Americanized” from the classic way Ball jars were once used to can and store our grains and produce.

We’ve lost sight of the purpose of organization…

At The Tribalist, we explore reverting to a better, more impactful alternative to storage using our proprietary Plastic-Free Diet. We (re)introduce Sustainable, Plastic-Free Home Organization.

We recommend starting your Plastic-Free Diet in the kitchen because you can have and feel the most significant impact. Given its proximity to eating and it’s where you consume (waste) the most, the kitchen is a crucial room to unlock health + organization.

What we believe:

  • Modern Home Organization is about the intersection of Health, Organization, and Design
  • Swapping from plastic to glass isn’t just aesthetics — it’s a practical function for both the food’s lifespan and, with the increasing amount of research we read on microplastics, it’s about improving your lifespan and health.
  • We don’t use the words “Sustainable” or “Zero Waste” to be en vogue — these concepts are what our grandparents used in their homes when the world was a healthier place, so we believe in bringing them back into our lives. It was never a broken way of living.
  • Using the Plastic Free Diet is simply about practical function and health

Why we exist:

We have become an over-consumed society. Home organization is the ultimate highlight of this: our consumption has been matched with increasing consumption to store the things we over consume

By seeking to create hyper-organization by way of buying more and cheaper plastic to contain our stuff (that we likely have too much of), our once-upon-a-time solutions to chaos have become chaos in themselves!

What words come to mind when you see this photo?

A few of my words include:

stress-inducing

uninspired

ugly

Consumption has created chaos.

We’re here to change that.

We believe in creating a better, stress-reducing home through a simple formula:

  1. Admit you have a clutter problem — it’s okay; we’re here to be your guide!
  2. Take inventory of the problem - we can do it for you automatically with a few images and AI
  3. Figure out what you need, consume, and then reduce what you don’t need.
  4. Optimize — The Tribalist uses an AI-powered design tool and our Consultants, we find better ways to store your fresh & bulk goods to improve their lifespan (hint: plastic doesn’t have these benefits), to be more accessible based on your usage and your design goals.
