HOW TO GET STARTED

Skip the conventional plastic wrap and go with more traditional beeswax paper. Beeswax paper is best used with a bit of butcher tape since it doesn't self-seal and self-adhesive like plastic. But, beeswax paper doesn't create microplastic waste. Beeswax paper can be composted.

EMBRACE

More than 100 years ago, miners used toxic mercury to flush out small particles of gold. Contaminated soil and mines litter the American West. To this day, mercury continues to contaminate water and soil despite ongoing cleanup efforts. 26 million pounds were used in California alone. AVOID PRODUCT TYPE

AVOID

Plastic wrap is incredibly difficult to recycle and clogs up recycling machinery. In addition, it can be disposed of through incineration which results in the release of dioxin which is a known and very potent carcinogen. The US throws away 5.71 million tons of plastic wrap each year. In addition, the country also throws away 2.8 million tons of plastic wrap. That's over 38 pounds per person per year. Very little of this waste is recycled and ends up in our oceans and landfills. Source: https://www.waste360.com/Recycling_And_Processing/plastic_film_ldpe
